I think we can all agree that pain is not fun. Thankfully, acupuncture (+ cupping) can help!
When back pain is treated, we place needles in the local area. So in the case of this photo, we were treating her lower back. This patient had been in sports for most of her life and is now dealing with pain from intense training and hard work during games and practices.
To provide even more support with acupuncture, we also place needles distally (in hands and feet). Each acupuncture point has a specific function, so depending on the patients other symptoms, additional acupuncture points will be selected. This makes each acupuncture session personalized to each patient that comes in!
This patient also added on cupping to her acupucnture session. We started with Slide Cupping -- where oil is placed on the skin, and we slide the cups around the back pulling those muscles up. Then we ended with Stationary Cupping -- where we place the cups on the skin and leave them in on spot for 5 - 10 minutes. Cupping is extremely beneficial for tight and sore muscles. Cupping also decreases inflammation and promotes blood circulation, which is what helps relaxes those muscles and makes you feel better!
If you haven't tried acupuncture and/or cupping for back pain, I highly encourage you to try it!
